STEM Nola & Congressman Cedric Richmond will be hosting a private screening of Hidden Figures, a film highlighting the 3 African American women who helped NASA win the space race by providing mathematical computations for the launch John Glenn and his fellow astronauts into space. We are excited that Katherine Sanders, granddaughter of Katherine Johnson (one of the 3 women depicted in the film), is our Guest of honor. We will be engaging over 70 STEM NOLA students with some of the cities most prominent Leaders, Judges, Entrepreneurs, Politicians & STEM figures at the AMC theatre in Harrahan.
Through this event, which was planned and hosted by me, I was able to raise over $20,000 for STEM NOLA.

Mea Boykins planned and hosted this Benefit Concert in partnership with UNHCR ACNUR, the United Nation's Agency for Refugees, & Santa Tecla 11, the venue sponsor. The event included live performances from an internationally known DJ from Barcelona as well as a silent auction of items worth over 2,000 euros from local artists & designers with proceeds going to UNHCR ACNUR. Tapas & wine were also served while a Syrian refugee gave a testimonial of her experiences which was led by the Director of the United Nations Refugee Agency, Catalan Committee. Boykins also served as a keynote speaker at this event & was able to raise enough money to house 2 Syrian families during the winter months.
In Touch Outreach Place, Inc. (NTOP) is sponsoring its first community Back to School Extravaganza. NTOP will distribute 175 backpacks with school supplies. In addition to backpacks, the event will have motivational speakers, Child Therapist Mea Boykins speaking about ADHD/Autism, free hair cuts, story telling, a dental bus, a blood mobile, food and more!
The International Arts Exhibition Event featured Olivia Lamy, Vice Counsel of the French Consulate of New Orleans, as the keynote speaker whom spoke on the importance of international travel and shared tips for the youth present. Performances were given by the Landry Walker Band, African Dancers & Malika from Making the Band 3.
Incoming freshman at Dillard University participated in this workshop where they were asked what their ultimate goals are. The students were then led in groups where they devised plans detailing how they can accomplish their goals starting now and also every 6 months. While students were developing their blueprint to success, Boykins engaged each group by advising them on how to get mentors in their field and do research relevant to pursuing their dreams.
Boykins celebrated the birthdays of fostered children at Raintree Children & Family Services in New Orleans by providing cake and ice cream and singing happy birthday with a group of volunteers. After enjoying the celebration, Boykins conducted motivational speaking to the group of girls, affirming that in spite of the odds they can be successful.
It was an honor speaking to high school students from various schools in New Orleans . Topics included preparation for college, peer pressure, setting and accomplishing goals and ways to maximize the college experience. This event was held at Tulane University.
The BBS Arise Talk Show aired on channel Sky 182 in London, England. Conversations surrounded S.E.A.'s first international event in London as well as events done in various parts of the world which focused on youth empowerment and eradicating homelessness.
It was amazing having my first international event in London. This event focused on youth empowerment, where S.E.A. partnered with "Team Up," an after school organization in London which focuses on preparing high school students for college. Celebrity Model and Author, Cynthia Chisom, engaged the youth with motivational speaking and live performances were given by dancers, rappers and poets from Kings College London. The kids in the program received end of the year awards based on achievement and also received school supplies and tea mugs which were sponsored by S.E.A.
Speaking at J.S. Clark academy was one of my favorite speaking engagements because my brother and sister attended the school at that time. I was able to speak to the kids about the trials and tribulations in which I have overcome on my path to success.
This event was full of fun for youth in Brooklyn, NYC. Kids received free haircuts, professional hair styles and make up by volunteers as well as free jewelry and clothing from various boutiques and designers around the country. After they were all dressed up, they received a professional photo shoot. There was also a DJ, live band, celebrity guests, free food and give-a-ways from MTV and Bravo TV whom sponsored the event.
